NASE on Micro-Business

College Scholarship Applications Online Now!

Posted on: February 18, 2009

I just received a great e-mail from the 2007 NASE Future Entrepreneur scholarship recipient.

Not sure what the NASE Future Entrepreneur Scholarship is? If you have teenage kids, you better catch up! It’s our flagship scholarship program – worth up to $24,000 over four years. That’s $12,000 for the first year, and then $4,000 up to three more times, as long as the student keeps their grades up. And it’s given each year to the child of an NASE Member that shows their own entrepreneurial spirit by already having a business during their high school or college years.

kathryn1But back to Kathryn. She e-mailed to tell me that she was just accepted into a master’s program in environmental studies at Brown University for this coming fall. I’m sure her parents (both self-employed therapists) are thrilled.

Stories like Kathryn’s are what make it so awesome to work with the NASE’s scholarship program. Besides the NASE Future Entrepreneur award, we also give away multiple $4,000 awards that are based on merit and financial need. For the past few years, we’ve been able to give these out to 20 deserving students.

Thankfully, the NASE uses an independent administrator to accept the applications and rank them based on their years of experience in the scholarship industry (I wouldn’t want that pressure!). But I am lucky enough to reap the rewards of being involved in the program! I get to meet the NASE FE recipient, and even take them a big check, Ed McMahon style.

Kathyrn’s e-mail also came at a great time, because it reminded me to remind you that applications for the NASE scholarship program are now available online. The deadline is April 25th, but get your son or daughter started now! The application includes a teacher recommendation and, for the NASE Future Entrepreneur, a 5-year business plan. So don’t wait until the last minute!

Find out more about the scholarship requirements here. You’ll need to be logged in with your MyNASE account to see the requirements, download an application, or link to the online application.

Good luck! And I hope to be writing about your son or daughter here, next year!
